Aphex Twin Release Concept

Task
This is a concept project I’ve made as a homework, while studying at the School of Visual Communication.

The task was to explore the collage technique and how different elements can relate in a single composition. Desired outcome — visuals for imaginary release and event of a chosen music artist.

Below, you can find poster, flyer and cover for a vinyl record of Selected Works Vol.3 by Aphex Twin.

Implementation
Collage technique is a great match for a music of Aphex Twin (Richard D. James).
He is known for experimenting with different forms of sound and producing evergreen masterpieces.

In a similar way, collage is all about working with separate snippets, trying to compose an image that feels complete.

Name of the artist is written in Soyuz Grotesk.
Being an example of ‘sampling’ itself (it was based on a bootleg cyrillic version of Helvetica from 1963), the typeface communicates the spirit of experiment, native
to the music of Aphex Twin.

Richard is married on a russian woman and sometimes uses recordings of her voice in his works. You may find one of those in my collage as well.
